A typical heritage of South Toulouse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Castles and mills, characterful villages, churches, and medieval market halls dot the Volvestre region. They are the vestiges of a rural past, animated by the rivers and their trade. Each region is distinguished by its architectural style, and our buildings embody our local identity.
A land of bastides typical of the Southwest, Volvestre reveals an unique architecture. You won’t see it anywhere else, mixing pink Toulouse brick and pebbles from the Garonne ! These local materials shape the villages, creating an unique architectural harmony in each alleyway, square, or on our old facades. The stone used comes from the majestic quarries of Comminges, located just a stone’s throw away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our favorite villages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rieux-Volvestre<\/a> stands out here as THE <\/strong>true heritage gem. The town boasts all the labels : Plus Beaux D\u00e9tours de France<\/a>, Station Verte, Halte Compostelle et commune touristique. Its impressive cathedral dominates the village. Nicknamed \u201cthe little pink town\u201d, it is an essential stop for visitors and pilgrims who travel the Via Garona. Strolling through this medieval town is like traveling back in time between pink bricks and half-timbered houses. Each little street has its own charm\u2026 with floral scents escaping from hidden gardens.

Also, the villages of Saint-Sulpice-sur-L\u00e8ze, Montesquieu-Volvestre, Saint-Christaud, Montbrun Bocage and Longages will delight lovers of old stones. Each village has its soul, its history. It is impossible to choose between them : each deserves a beautiful walk !

No\u00e9, a place of memory<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The No\u00e9 camp (31) welcomed thousands of Spanish refugees fleeing the civil war. In 1940 the camp was chosen for the elderly, sick and infirm internees as well as their families, making it a \u201chospital camp\u201d.

People arrested by the Vichy regime were gathered in this camp before being sent to the extermination camps. Today, 3 vestiges remain : the stadium stand, the water tower and the current ALSH.

A Memorial in memory of the deportees was inaugurated in 2021: \u201c These engraved names are an integral part of the History of No\u00e9, a past that does not pass\u2026 \u201d.<\/em>

The explanation of the Memorial, by its architect, Francis Berg\u00e9 : \u201cThe 13 columns represent a group of human beings, men, women, children, marching towards death, of which we perceive only a pale silhouette that fades over time. The bar inclined at 45 degrees confirms their disappearance. The barbed wire recalls the concentration camp unity of the extermination camps. The 6 trapezoids, pink granite plaques, correspond to the 6 million Jews who died in deportation. They are written in French, Spanish, Hebrew, German, Yiddish and English.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
