Rieux-Volvestre

A former episcopal city, Rieux-Volvestre is undoubtedly the village that will most satisfy history buffs. Nestled by the river, the cathedral is the iconic monument that dominates the old town centre and its medieval streets.
Labelled one of France’s Most Beautiful Detours for the richness of its heritage, Rieux-Volvestre is an excellent place to stop in the region.

Montesquieu-Volvestre

The unusual Saint-Victor church, the huge market hall and its arcades, the half-timbered houses, the Toulouse brick: here, everything speaks to us of the past. Stroll along the riverbanks of the Arize, passing by the mills and Couloumé Park.

Keep going and look for four towers reaching up to the sky. There it is, the famous Château de Longages-Comminges. Dating back to the 15th century, its Renaissance style reflects the artistic influence of the time. You can visit it during cultural events or on European Heritage days.

Noé

Take the time to discover the thousand-year-old town of Noé, forged by the powerful lords of Noé-Montaut. Noé’s history is revealed at every turn. Come and see its magnificent Pardailhan house, its church, its castles and its Second World War internment camp. The latter was located in the municipalities of Noé, Mauzac and Le Fauga to accommodate Spanish Republicans and Jewish victims of anti-Semitic policies.
