‘A few words about Léo
A lover of nature and mountain sports from a very young age, Léo decided to turn his passions into his profession. He became a mountain guide. It was whilst working as a guide for the ‘Sur les Hauteurs’ agency that Léo met the Tamalous, a group of female walkers (and one male walker) from Rieux-Volvestre. Those four days spent together in the Bardenas desert will remain etched in their hearts forever. Sensitive and attuned to the natural world around him – a world he knows so well – Léo knows how, through his photographs, to capture the magic of this world that is visible to us, and sometimes invisible. His sensitivity naturally draws him to the smallest creatures, insects and also those least often photographed: flies, spiders, grasshoppers or very rare birds such as the wallcreeper. Among plants, carnivorous plants are his favourite. A scholar of the natural sciences, he loves to pass on and share his passion through his work.
On 4 February 2024, whilst on a mountain hike in the Mont Blanc massif, Léo suffered a fatal fall. He spent his final moments in this enchanting and wild world where he felt so very alive. He was about to turn 24.
Léo lived life to the full. Like a shooting star, he lit up our lives, but he vanished all too quickly.
‘A heart as big as this, a life so full that if you were to dilute it just a little, it would fill the lives of ten ordinary people.’ A quote written for Jack London, and one that suits him so well.
He leaves a great void, but he has left us the gift of his magnificent photographs, which we would like to share with you.
This exhibition, organised by his beloved grandmothers from Rieux-Volvestre, his friends and his family, is dedicated to all nature lovers.”
