a pilgrim’s way

A former natural route used from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance to reach Santiago de Compostela via Piedmont, the Via Garona is a forgotten pilgrimage route to Compostela. Attentive walkers will not fail to notice traces of the Jacobean heritage at several stages along the way.

Dear pilgrims, please remember to collect your pilgrim’s passport before departure!

Rieux-Volvestre, a place to stop

We welcome you to the Rieux-Volvestre tourist office, one of three stops on the Via Garona route that has been awarded the ‘Commune Halte-Chemins de Compostelle’ label, where you can get your credential stamped! The municipality also offers accommodation reserved for hikers at a preferential rate.

To help you find your way around, you can also purchase the Via Garona guidebook from our offices or from the French Hiking Federation: Via Garona – GRÂź861 – FĂ©dĂ©ration Française de la RandonnĂ©e PĂ©destre.
