Carbonne – La balade aux abris

💧 Explore this ancient fortified town, with modern and old heritage. Artists have left their mark on this city; sculptures by André Abbal and Pierre Lasbugues are scattered across the facades and in the gardens.

With La balade des abris, you also discover the work of the visual artist and sculptor Laurent Cadilhac, who created 9 shelters combining history, art and sculpture, present throughout the route.

Finally, this path allows you to follow the Garonne and observe the “pile” of Pila, the remains of a Gallo-Roman bridge destroyed by the flooding of the Garonne in 1456.

La boucle de Pesquiès in Saint-Sulpice-sur-Lèze

The Pesquiès loop allows you to discover the Bastide town of Saint-Sulpice-sur-Lèze, its magnificent arcades and half-timbered houses. You will also find craft shops there:

  • Les Audacieuses : crafts and producers shop
  • The summer exhibition of artisans and creators at the town hall

This loop then takes you to the hillsides of the village and to the remarkable Moulin de Pesquiès, from where you can admire an exceptional view of the fortified town and the Pyrenees mountain. Depending on the season, you will be surrounded by rapeseed flowers, sunflowers, or even wheat, as the hike crosses many fields. Remember to bring a hat! ☀️

Notre Dame de Montaut in Montbrun-Bocage

This hike takes you to Montbrun-Bocage, at the gateway to Ariège.

Starting from a small village in the heart of nature, the path takes you through history! An old ruined castle, a chapel hidden in the forest and other surprises await you around a bend… The works of the Symposium are next to the lake at the end of the route, don’t miss them!

You can also visit the castle at a free price during the Sunday morning market, where many producers and artisans offer you the specialities of Volvestre.

Le chemin du castera et de monléon in Montesquieu-Volvestre

Starting from the historic center of the city, this hike offers you a discovery of the church, the market hall and the half-timbered facades.

It then takes you along the ridge paths and roads: be careful on the climb, it’s hard ! Your efforts will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the village and the surrounding valleys. The panoramas of the Arize plain, the Volvestre hillsides and the Pyrenees are incredibles !

At Castera, the ceramic orientation table teaches you the names of the peaks. You’ll become an expert on mountains! 🏔️😎

Le Village Gaulois in Rieux-Volvestre

The Village Gaulois hike is one of the longest in Volvestre: it takes you between the Garonne, the Arize, the plains and the history of the city.

Listed in the Haute-Garonne Departmental Hiking and Travel Plan, this trail begins in the heart of the historic center. You can admire the Cathedral, the half-timbered houses, discover the museums, and even the Tourasse, an ancient prison.
